Nike’s Chief of Design Doodles All Day (response)

Although John Hoke was born with dyslexia, he viewed the world in an interesting way. Hoke is more thoughtful when staring at an object. For example, after he wore through his Nike waffle trainer sneakers as a kid, he decided to break them apart and was fascinated by how they were made. His way of thinking continued, and he eventually got a job as Nike's Chief of Design. Today, Hoke leads and inspires other designers with his drawings. Drawing helps him to stay focused as he listens to others. This is his way of communication. John Hoke is a very positive person, developing innovative ways for sneakers to become one with your foot in terms of fit and flexibility, and by protecting the environment with the material used to make them. Hoke grew up seeing his dyslexia more as a gift than as a burden and I really admire that.
